Q&A with Cami: “I want to launch an online program, but I don’t have a website yet because I’m stuck at the copywriting stage. Any advice?”

Recently, an online business owner reached out to me.

She asked:

I want to create an online training program, but I haven't even gotten my website up yet. I'm stuck at the copywriting stage. I'm really struggling and can't seem to get over this hump. Do you have any advice? —V.

I know you might be struggling with the same thing, so I wanted to share my response.

Here's what I wrote back  I hope it helps you, too!

My response to V’s question:

Hi V,

I know that writing copy for your website is tough and that it's easy to get stuck. Nearly every successful business owner I know feels the same way (even professional copywriters), so please know that it's normal. My best advice is to think small.

Stuck with writing your website's copy? Do this.

You don't need a fancy website with "perfect" copy to get started selling your digital program, but you do need a few basics...

  • A simple website

  • An email opt-in that's related to your digital program (this will help you attract the right customers)

  • Two or three months where you're 100% focused on growing your email list

When I created my online course Simple Site Blueprint, I pre-sold it to an email list of 500 people. I was expecting 5 sales and I made 19! So, I know a thing or two about starting a digital program from scratch.

The most important thing at this stage is to grow an email list of future customers. Don't stress if your website copy isn't 100% polished yet.

What do I mean by a "simple" website? For inspiration, check out my new website (screenshot below). It's only 1 page!

Why did I create a 1-page website?

My former website was all about web design services, which I'm no longer offering. These days, I'm focused on working with 1:1 coaching clients and helping students in my course Simple Site Blueprint.

Instead of waiting until I had time to redesign my entire website, I created a simple 1-page site that allows me to test new offers and messaging and iterate as I go (while booking clients, selling courses, and growing my list, too).

If you're feeling stuck with your website and copy, creating a 1-page website is a great short-term option.

As you're working on your simple website, here are some free resources you'll love:

I know there are a lot of moving pieces to building your website and bringing your ideas to life online. When you're going at it alone, it's easy to get stuck.

If you'd like my 1:1 support, here's a link to my calendar to book a 60-minute coaching call, where we can talk about how to move forward with your website and copy in the simplest way possible.

Let me know if you have any other questions and hope to see you soon!

Cheering you on.

x Cami
